After a routine security check by George Smiley, civil servant Samuel Fennan apparently kills himself. John le Carré est né en 1931. Après avoir étudié à Oxford, il enseigna à Eton, puis travailla pendant cinq ans pour le Foreign Office. L'Espion qui venait du froid, lui valut la célébrité. La consécration est venue avec la trilogie : La Taupe, Comme un collégien et Les Gens de Smiley. John le Carré vivait en Cornouailles.
